(this section will eventually be expanded)

far too much history to cover here, but broadly speaking, jazz, rhythm & blues in the 1950's - motown, stax in the 60's - funk, disco in the 70's - dance grooves in the 80's - r & b, acid jazz of the 90's have all passed down through the decades, their soulful - funky - jazzy vibes.

pioneers would include (again, too many to list all)
marvin gaye, stevie wonder, james brown, ray charles, aretha franklin, curtis mayfield, george clinton, roy ayers, gil scott-heron, donald byrd, quincy jones, nina simone, reuben wilson, herbie hancock.

curtis mayfieldjames brown

not forgetting...
prince, chaka khan, loose ends, change...
