"masters at work presents nuyorican soul" - nuyorican soul

i first discovered this lp when it was for sale as a 6x12" box set back in nov/dec 1996.  not knowing what it was about, i didn't bother buying it.  big mistake.  the following weekend, it took two hours visiting almost every record shop in soho and finally buying one of the last two boxes in blackmarket records.  it was worth every penny and second.

the lp will probably feel at home in the soul-jazz-funk section, maybe even in the disco section, but at the time it was filed as 'house'.  'little' louie vega and kenny 'dope' gonzalez trace their musical roots and give it the 90's production re-work.  a project that really stood out in the 90's - yet never got the acclaim it deserves...

the only downside is the commercial lp was robbed of the full version of "it's alright, I feel it" feat jocelyn brown, it stops short of the acapella...the 12" single of the same tune was complete with an excellent roni size mix.

contributors include, india, jocelyn brown, roy ayers, tito puente, dave valentin, george benson, jazzy jeff, eddie palmieri

"mastercuts definitive classic house vol I" - various artists

bringing together some classic house tunes from the late 80's and early 90's.  tracks include, frankie knuckles presents satoshi tomiie "tears", ce ce roger's "someday", ralphi rosario's "you used to hold me", raze "break for love", ten city "devotion" plus more.

"mad styles and crazy visions" - various artists

the theme for this compilation is the 90's disco movement.  disco influenced house music and who better to compile it than 'little' louie vega - one half of masters at work.   released on bbe records so quality music is assured.

contains an excellent re-edit of nuyorican soul feat roy ayers "sweet tears", booker t remix of first choice "the player"

"10 years of strictly rhythm" - various artists [ministry of sound]

not many people are aware of this label in the uk, because most of the tunes that are released by them are licensed to other labels - even this lp is on the ministry of sound label.  strictly rhythm is responsible for a huge amount of house and garage tunes.  from masters at work projects to  josh wink "higher state of consciousness".  regarded by many as their favourite house label, this lp really captures the essence that the new york sound has brought to us.  so if you missed them the first time round, it's well worth getting.  also has a few recent tunes too.

contains: aly-us "follow me", barbara tucker "beautiful people", underground solution "luv dancin" plus many more (the cd has twice as many as the vinyl!)
