current ten by osunlade (in no particular order)

where does one begin?  dj, remixer and producer.  current resident of puerto rico after escaping new york!

man behind the yoruba records label and the yoruba soul remixes - deep and tribal house music.

worked with musiq soulchild, little louie vega, erro and recently remixed a track for the mercury music prize winner ms dynamite.

out at the end of september: "osunlade/offering" mixed cd and unmixed vinyl compilation by osunlade on r2 records.

d'moja - "ancestor invocation" [white] - traditonal yoruba drumming via ibo (reverence) to the ancestors and spiritual guides...this is a wonderful break or introduction to my set as it's traditional sound makes space for the mind to explore personal connections and praise dancing even more...simple yet powerful!

abdullah ibraham - "
ishmael" [enja records] - classic jazz for the purists...magical islamic chants and prayers set in a quite moment of upright bass, dancing piano, a juicy drums...

erro - "
rock with you" (yoruba soul mix) [bbe records] - a remix for the debut single of the magnificent jazzy jeff created by osunlade and eric roberson (erro) who brought you "dont change" on yoruba records then licensed to z records...simply a classic soul presentation that once agin displays the vocalists beautiful tone matched by a sweet melodic groove and chorus...this single also boasts a deep-rooted dub for the underground house heads...

nitin sawhney - "
the conference" [outcaste records] - this song never leaves my player...using tablas to speak, two men converse in what plays like a spiritual bond...or in sawhney's voice, a political cry for unity and moral awakening for the powers that be to change the views of war and greed.. a classic for the soul

nuspirit helsinki - "
makoomba" [guidance records] -
as african as it gets! this groove is undeniable, the bassline infectious, guitar remnant of fela's best, drums with talking drum to boot, and horns that blow you around the floor... this is that song that moves any crowd despite demographic boundary...

roland brival - "
creole gypsy" [ismaa records] - an album originally released in 1980 in martinique, only 500 copies were pressed and sold and like most music from the island was once forgotten and/or lost, thanks to the family of ismaa who brought us "creole love calls" last year and has found not only the masters but also the artist and re-released this gem which includes six of the most beautifully raw songs ive heard...roland's voice is smooth and gentle while the grooves mixes jazz, island sound, fela and all in between...a must own!

sade - "
by your side" (cottonbelly remix) [red hot & blue/mca records] - nice re-work of this sade classic, jazzy and ethnic with dub overtones...

atelewo - "
new day" [yoruba records] - the first release on yoruba in almost a year...this group formed by osunlade, dj rame, uovo, and dino from the pastaboys gives us a 12 minute plus song that moves in three sections, like those in the 70's, this one goes from full on vocal by osunlade to afro-brazillian break to a sweet chantin' ending...with the support of soul jazz, the label should supply a wide array of music to look forward to, nice return...

nadirah shakoor - "
pride" [set records] - already a staple by dj's around the world, this new release by set should prove to be around for some time to come, with its catchy electronic chord structure and strong vocal delivery, you gotta dance and shout "pride"!

susana baca - "
de los amores" [luaka bop] - produced by craig street known for his work with meshell ndegeocello, this song touches the inner most feeling of love...her tones are like velvet covered in honey...the afro-peruvian percussion and guitar unforgettable...

alma horton – “lies” [diaspora] - what a vocal range she has to accompany these thought provoking lyrics.  sweet abraham does it again for me with this exceptional, first rate production mixes that are en par with the seminal and lush classic "count on me".  note, the added quality of lars b (boc prouductions) finely tuned mix for those peak time moments.

blaze – “breathe” [slip n slide] - ashley beedle adds a timeless essence and retains the quality of the original nugget which sound very much like the old days of earth wind & fire.

the keith thompson project – “rhythm of life pt. 2” [usr] - the original tony humphries production makes a welcome return along with some solid jazz-n-groove mixes.

grant nelson – “ethnicity part two” [swing city] - a funky template joins some soulful tribal rhythms - its pure warmth and energy will get party heads going for it.
