moondog "moondog one and moondog two" [bgo records] - insane howl-at-the-moon sounds created by this blind street musician from ny. extra value with two albums on one cd

john barleycorn must die" [island] - amazing spiritual jazz-rock from this band fronted with steve winwood's beautiful soul vocals.

bill jones "
panchpuran" [brick] - british folk music given a modern twist from this sometimes plaintive singer.

nick drake "five leaves left" [island] - a classic album from the most gentle of 70s british singer / songwriters.

gillian welch "time (the revelator)" [acony] - is it country and western? not quite, american folk with amazing harmonies and subtle guitar playing.

bah samba "
bah samba" [estereo] - promotional lp from this quality band with real instruments and proper beats. all the singles plus several new tracks.

beatless "
life mirrors" [ubiquity] - plenty of unusual sounds on this new(ish) album from london via san francisco.

neil halstead "sleeping on roads" [4ad] - brand new cd from mojave 3 frontman - put it on and listen to how good independent music can be.

john martyn "
solid air" [island] - the best album from this prolific irish jazz-folk musician. can't understand a single word, but he has the voice of an angel

victor davies "victor davies" [jazzanova compost records] - classy brazilian sounding vibes from young singer songwriter.

curtis runs dance-for-life (www.dance-for-life.com) and dj's in and around london. he also records as ghetto soul combining soul/funk/jazz musicians to create organic soulful dance grooves!

watch out for the new monthly event "loose joints" beginning march 3rd at the living bar, brixton, hosted by curtis and simon c.

4 hero feat alma horton - "hold it down" (bugz in the attic/osunlade remixes) [talkin loud] - back once again, this really is a timeless slice of soulful dance. 

jon cutler - "you groove me" (osunlade remixes) - big summer groove, retouched by osunlade, this grooves me! 

blue 6 - "let's do it together" (album version) [naked] - the best on naked since blue 6's "pure".  this is essential.

peven everett - "
good lovin" [diaspora] - nu yorica meets west london, love it, love it, love it!!! 

marcia griffiths - "let me know" - dope reggae, freshly imported from jamaaaaaaaaica, this is ruude, iriiiieee.

mr hermano - "
jugando con fuego" - latin jazz dance, this is the bomb!

jon cutler feat e-man - "
it's yours" (frankie feliciano remixes) [chez] - bored of this yet?.....ricanstructed to perfection....don't sleep until you hear this version! 

soha - "izabelle" [basenotic] - the most underatted duo in todays dance scene.  tres fantastique!!!

mental remedy - "
kotu rete" [spiritual life] - head straight for the chords mix for some mental remedy!

donnie - "do you know" (danny krivit re-edit) [giant step] - cool modern soul for those that know!

agent k - "ladies" [laws of motion] - the man like kaidi does it yet again, can't get this tune out of my head. super soulful futuristic funky jazz, the kind of groove stevie would be making if he still made music. can't wait for the album. 

donnie - "cloud nine" [giant step] - ah, more stevie-a-likes! or is it donny hathaway-a-like? whatever, it's a super song, from a super singer-songwriter. can't wait for the album.  

stevie wonder - "superwoman" [tamla] - current fave from the man himself. 

donny hathaway - "everything is everything" [atlantic] - current fave from the other man himself.

cool notes - "people make the world go round" [t&t] - great reggae cover of the classic stylistics tune.

new flesh - "move slow" [big dada] - liking this a lot, best track from an excellent uk hip-hop lp. fresh as you like.

eli goulart & banda do mato - "meu samba" (nicola conte's bass ahead mix) [unique] - corking summery samba sounds, one to get those feet shuffling. 

nathan detroit - "no sleep 'til green street" [big bear] - the latest excellent disco re-edit / cut up on big bear, a happy-go-lucky stomper based around a diana ross vocal. 

north end - "kind of life kind of love" (maw remix) [west end] - from the must-have box set, a truly anthemic 11 minute rework. the boys done good. 

art blakey & the jazz messengers - "moanin'" [blue note] - the absolute business

he is also responsible for the fidgit record label and clubs and can often be found behind the decks (or at the bar) at the pool, the embassy and various other clubs/bars in and around london.

will young - "ever green" (r soul mix) [rca] - the best man won, i've got a feeling mister young doesn't really like the usual chart fodder he'll be expected to churn out over the next year or so.... i wonder if he'll ever turn to the ever green like those shameful s club 7 boys????!!!

indigo blues" (faze action mix) [f comm] - faze action always give house music that live edge i just cant resist.

the stranger" [recreation] - i know i'm a bit late getting on to this re-issue, but (in my humble opinion) this is the labels best release so far.

aim - "hinterland" 'lp' [grand central] - i've got a feeling aim is gonna create another carboot soul vs smokers delights type debate. what is better? cold water music or hinterland? 

various - "heavy weight rib tickers" compiled by mr scruff [unfold] - a new label, a new angle on compilations and basslines that'll knock you off your feet.

singalong/dedicated" [tru thoughts] - play this very loud indeed on a large sound system and you'll make people smile !

drop" [matador] - imagine a superdiscount with an acoustic guitar.... tokyo's finest.

tutto matto – “lmf part 3” [tummy touch] - the best part of this ep sees a live bass led groove veer from disco rhythms to rhodes bliss

subway – “subway tracks” [nuphonic] -  those moody blokes who slag everything off from behind the counter of record and tape, finally release something to show they are entitled to slag everything off from behind the counter of record and tape.

kimberly - "fade" [wave] - totally gorgeous and first released on solu, this is now in remastered form on wave and sounding better for it - also check 'so high'


iaia – “
gruppo aram bepe” (butti 49 remix) [strut] - butti 49 go to town in a jazz dancefloor style and flip it over for a roc hunter treatment of 'melo da tagarela' (that's a black rio inspired cover of rapper's delight to you and me)

"nights over pisa" (jesto jones) - the jones girls over some super stellar funk - it does the business!

dom um romao – “lake of perseverance” (opaque remix) [head to toe] - seiji action delivering a serious, serious bassline!
