bushmen of the kalahari alongside many remixers - "san’scapes vol 1"   [m.e.l.t.2000] - ancient rites and traditions of a people fighting for their landrights captured on disc, spiritually embellished by a galaxy of who’s who in global vibes remixing – raj gupta, simon emmerson, mehdi haddab, gambit, youth and the wise words of zena edwards. plus a campaign sponsored by diesel and survival to make it all real

dar beida 04 - "impiria consequential"  [barbarity] - swiss based moroccan label’s borderless electronic/roots explorations with nina hagen (yes!), natacha atlas, amina annabi and new voices amina ray, aisha al majjad lifting over fused d’n’b, house, chaabi – rich vein? only the wonderful beginning! a must check label

mahmoud fadl feat. salwa abou greisha - "umm kalthum 7000"  [pirhana] - yes they have so dared, but egypt’s supreme queen will be rollin’ not writhin’ in her sarcophagus, as this is a wondrous take on some of her most hallowed tunes with effective innovations & vocalese which both take time boldly forward and make it stand reverentially still

drl, tony allen, jean phi dary, jeff kellner, cesar anot - "psyco on da bus[comet] - everyone needs a mench as melodic electronica meets sun ra styled jazz in the afrobeat melting pot with  tracks that build in intensity with the seduction, pacing and passion of a voodoo ceremony – the yoruba roots shine thru. before you know it you are irresistibly engaged. uk distribution - discovery

various - "indestructible asian beats"  [manteca] - yo martin morales – selector extraordinaire – the ‘urban tigers from the concrete jungle’ stalk punjabi garage, hindi dub and  sous-sol bollywood with fresh mixes from badmarsh/shri, tj rehmi, adf and – bless - anandar shankar. can i cheat here and also direct y’all to ‘afrodigital’ on sister label ocho where the shrine posse excel themselves with impeccably adventurous choices.

shiva nova - "flying to the sun"  [shiva nova] - released in tandem with the mellower roots-searching ‘moonlighting’ this album sees pritti paintal’s shiva nova go deeper still into the club vibe, trodding the world dance rather than asian underground route with a re-mix from non-other than nelson dilation as well

beat chemist - “free mzwakhe   parts 1and 2 [c 2001] - beat chemist combines a  love of african music and understanding of crucial mzwakhe lyrics in these cuts. lest we forget whilst all the world celebrates a free south africa, outspoken clear-minded poet mzwkhe mbule is still imprisoned on a trumped up charge. go to www.mzwakhe.org to find out more
